Drumming (4 steps)

How to Do:

1. Setup:

  • The Helper and Participant sit facing each other with the drum (or substitute) placed between them.

2. Pattern Demonstration:

  • The Helper begins by demonstrating drumming patterns in 1-4 steps.
  • The Participant observes and then imitates the pattern.

3. Steps for Drumming Patterns:

  • Step 1: Helper beats 1 beat
    • Participant imitates using a regular beat, short/swift beat, soft beat, or hard beat.
    • Use 1 finger, 2 fingers, or a full hand.
    • Repeat 5-10 times with both Left and Right hands.
  • Step 2: Helper beats 2-beat rhythm
    • Participant imitates using a mix of beats:
    – Examples: Soft-Hard, Short-Regular, or Soft 1 finger-Hard Full Hand.
    • Repeat 5-10 times with both Left and Right hands.
  • Step 3: Helper beats 3-beat rhythm
    • Participant imitates using a mix of beats:
    – Examples: (Full Hand) Soft-Hard-Short, Short-Regular-Soft, or Soft 1 finger-Hard Full Hand-Fist.
    • Repeat 5-10 times with both Left and Right hands.
  • Step 4: Helper beats 4-beat rhythm
    • Participant imitates using a mix of beats.
    • Repeat 5-10 times with both Left and Right hands.

4. Encourage Creativity:

  • Allow the Participant to create their own drumming patterns for the Helper to imitate.

This activity promotes sensory engagement, bilateral coordination, and auditory processing in a fun and interactive way.

  • Plastic Container with Lid
  • Bucket
  • Drumming Sample Card
