Collage Art

How to Do:

1. Setup:

  • Choose a calm, well-lit workspace with easy access to materials.
  • Provide a theme suggestion (e.g., Beach, Flower, Family, Free Design) to inspire creativity.
  • Play relaxing music to enhance focus and creativity (optional).

2. Activity Steps:

  • Step 1: Choose a Theme and Outline the Design
    – Assist the Participant in selecting a theme or item to draw (e.g., car, flower, animal, or abstract design).
    – Draw or help them outline the design on a letter-sized cardboard canvas using colored markers.
  • Step 2: Prepare Materials
    – Set out glue, scissors, and decorative materials:
    ◦ Colored buttons.
    ◦ Fabric swatches.
    ◦ Glitter.
    ◦ Foam shapes.
    ◦ Yarn.
    ◦ Tissue paper or scraps of wrapping paper.
    – Arrange the materials in an easy-to-reach layout.
  • Step 3: Create the Collage
    – Encourage the Participant to decorate the design by gluing materials onto the outlined areas.
    ◦ Use yarn to outline shapes.
    ◦ Add buttons or glitter for texture and sparkle.
    ◦ Layer fabric or tissue paper for a vibrant, textured effect.
    – Assist with cutting, gluing, or arranging materials if needed.
  • Step 4: Final Touches
    – Allow the Participant to add any final decorations or details.
    – Optionally, frame the collage for display.

Tips for Success:

  • Celebrate creative freedom—there are no wrong choices!
  • Encourage the Participant to use a variety of textures and colors.
  • Adapt to the Participant’s skill level by providing more or less assistance.
