How to Do:
1. Setup:
- Use a medium-sized therapy ball suitable for the participant’s size and comfort.
- Ensure the area is safe and free from obstacles.
- Optionally, provide a music player with soft classical or nature sounds for a calming atmosphere.
2. Seated Rocking:
- The participant sits on the therapy ball while the helper sits in front of them.
- The helper places their hands gently on the participant’s hips for stability.
- Gently rock the participant:
– Left to right 10 times.
– Forward and backward 10 times.
3. Tummy Rocking:
- The participant lies on their tummy on the therapy ball.
- The helper supports the participant to ensure safety and balance.
- Gently rock the participant:
– Left to right 10 times.
– Forward and backward 10 times.
4. Back Rocking:
- The participant lies on their back on the therapy ball.
- The helper provides support to keep the participant stable.
- Gently rock the participant:
– Left to right 10 times.
– Forward and backward 10 times.
5. Repeat as Needed:
- Repeat the sequence if time allows or if the participant shows signs of needing additional calming sensory input.
Tips for Success:
• Monitor the participant’s comfort level and adjust the rocking intensity accordingly.
• Provide verbal encouragement or soothing words during the activity to enhance relaxation.
• Ensure the helper maintains a firm but gentle grip for safety and support.
