How to Do:
1. Setup:
- Both the participant and helper (caregiver) should sit comfortably in their chairs, ensuring the chairs have a back for support.
- Optionally, play calming music or nature sounds to create a relaxing atmosphere.
2. Yoga Pose Selection:
- The participant picks a yoga card from the deck, which shows a different chair yoga pose.
- The helper can demonstrate the pose first, ensuring that it is safe and comfortable for the senior.
3. Practice the Poses:
- Perform 5 yoga poses, holding each pose for at least 10 seconds.
- Repeat each pose 2 times, focusing on gentle movements and mindful breathing.
- Encourage slow, controlled movements and remind the participant to “BREATHE SLOWLY IN AND OUT” throughout each pose.
4. Relaxation:
- After completing the series of poses, take a few moments to relax and breathe deeply.
- The participant can focus on how their body feels, promoting relaxation and stress relief.
Tips for Success:
- Keep the movements slow and gentle, focusing on flexibility and relaxation rather than intensity.
- Offer plenty of encouragement and ensure the senior feels supported during each pose.
- Adjust poses as needed based on the participant’s comfort and range of motion.
