Music & Imagination Time

How to Do:

1. Setup:

  • Prepare the space: Create a calm and inviting environment, free from distractions.
  • Arrange musical instruments (e.g., maracas, tambourines, bongo drums).
  • Have a device ready with a playlist of music genres or artists.

2. Activity Steps:

  • Step 1: Choose Music
    – Introduce music genres using a list of suggestions (see below).
    – Allow the Participant to select a genre or specific artist based on their mood or preference.
  • Step 2: Listen and Relax
    – Play the selected music for 5–10 minutes.
    – Encourage the Participant to sit comfortably, close their eyes, and immerse themselves in the sounds.
  • Step 3: Interactive Play
    – Provide musical instruments (e.g., maracas, tambourines).
    – Join the Participant in playing along to the music for a social, interactive experience.
    – Use colored scarves to enhance creativity, encouraging the Participant to move them in rhythm with the music.

3. Suggested Music Genres and Artists for Adults:

  • Big Band/Swing: Andrew Sisters, Glenn Miller.
  • Classic Crooners: Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin (Rat Pack).
  • Jazz/Blues: Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole.

  • 1960s Pop/Rock: The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel.
  • Soul/Blues: Aretha Franklin.
