Hit the Cones

How to Do:

1. Setup:

  • Arrange colored cones in a semicircle on the floor.
  • The Child sits on the floor or lies on their tummy, facing the cones.
  • Place a tennis ball within easy reach of the Child.
  • Prepare 5 picture sample cards matching the cone colors.

2. Activity Steps:

  • Part 1: Rolling to Cones in Order
    – The Child begins by rolling the ball toward the first cone on the right side, attempting to hit it.
    – Continue rolling the ball to each cone in sequence from right to left until all 5 cones are hit.
    – Repeat this sequence 3 times.
  • Part 2: Matching Colored Cards
    – The Helper shows the Child 2 colored cards.
    – The Child rolls the ball to the cones in the order of the colors on the cards, attempting to hit the cones that match the sequence.
    – Repeat this 5 times.
    – As the Child demonstrates progress, increase the sequence to 3-4 colored cards.

3. Repetitions:

  • Continue the activity, adjusting the number of trials based on the Child’s interest and success.
  • Avoid exceeding the number of successful trials to maintain focus and engagement.

Tips for Success:

  • Provide clear verbal cues to guide the Child during the activity.
  • Encourage slow, controlled rolling to improve aim.
  • Celebrate each success with positive reinforcement to boost confidence.
