Create a calm and comfortable environment for the activity.
Provide the Participant with a bubble wand, pinwheel, and feather for the exercise.
Optionally, play soft, relaxing music or nature sounds to enhance focus.
2. Demonstrate:
The Helper holds a bubble wand in their right hand and places their left hand on their belly.
Take a deep breath in, expanding the belly (the hand on the belly moves outward).
Exhale slowly through the mouth, blowing through the bubble wand to create bubbles.
Observe the hand on the belly moving inward as the belly contracts.
Explain the sequence: “Breathe in, belly expands. Breathe out, belly contracts.”
3. Practice Together:
Step 1:
– The Participant holds the bubble wand in their right hand and places their left hand on their belly.
– Perform the breathing sequence: inhale deeply to expand the belly, then exhale slowly to blow bubbles.
– Repeat this sequence 5 times.
Step 2:
– Replace the bubble wand with a handheld pinwheel.
– Inhale deeply to expand the belly, then exhale slowly to spin the pinwheel.
– Repeat this sequence 5 times.
Step 3:
– Replace the pinwheel with a feather.
– Inhale deeply to expand the belly, then exhale gently to blow the feather upward.
– Repeat this sequence 5 times.
4. Repetitions:
Perform 5 repetitions for each item (bubble wand, pinwheel, and feather).
Adjust the number of repetitions based on the Participant’s comfort and engagement.
Tips for Success:
Encourage the Participant to breathe slowly and deeply, focusing on the movement of their belly.
Use descriptive and encouraging language to make the activity fun and engaging (e.g., “Let’s see how high we can blow the feather!”).
If the Participant struggles with the rhythm, guide them gently by counting aloud or demonstrating again.
